In Amalfi the climate is Mediterranean with mild winters and rainy summers and moderately warm, sunny. Its foundation goes back to the Roman Empire (its emblem bears the inscription 'Ex descendit patribus romanorum'). In Ninth century became a Sea Republic, Rivaling Pisa, Venice and Genoa to control the Mediterranean Sea.
