In the center of the Stagnone lagoon, at the begining of the 20th century, Joseoh Isaac Spatafora Whitaker discovered the ruins of the ancient fenician colony of Mothia. The island can be easy reached by boat or, when the tide is low, walking along a very old underwater road.
